In this lesson, students will read about thunder and lightning.

CONTENT OBJECTIVE: I can identify and describe the key features of a thunderstorm

WIDA Standard 4 (Science): Identify and describe the features of a thunderstorm, including dark clouds, lightning, thunder, rain, and strong winds, and explain that lightning happens before thunder.

WIDA Standard 2 (Language Arts): Use descriptive and cause/effect language to explain storm events (e.g., “The sky gets dark,” “Lightning comes first, then thunder,” “Storms happen when warm and cool air meet”).

WIDA Standard 1 (Social/Instructional): Use sentence frames and visuals to describe weather conditions and retell storm events (e.g., “I see __,” “I hear __,” “A thunderstorm has __”).
