Step One Social Studies: Social Studies 1.3: "Geography, Economy, and Working Together"

This is the first Social Studies path in the Garbanzo Academy that introduces foundational concepts about geography, communities, and the economy. Students learn to identify land and water features, recognize how weather and natural resources shape where people live, and distinguish between needs and wants. They explore the roles of producers and consumers, discover how money and trade connect people, and follow the steps of how food travels from farms to tables. Students also compare markets around the world, classify goods and services, and explain how people solve problems by working together in their communities. Finally, they learn why saving is important for the future.

Designed especially for Multilingual Learners (MLLs), this path includes both simplified informational texts and engaging narrative stories that use repetition, comparisons, visuals, and clear academic language to build social studies understanding while supporting English language development.
