Welcome to our “How to Extend a Garbanzo Lesson” series, where we highlight specific Garbanzo lessons and show how to turn them into more than just a single lesson or activity.
In this post, we’ll focus on the short length lesson, “Senado argentino es víctima de ciberataque (Nivel A)”
“Senado argentino es víctima de ciberataque (Nivel A)” is a news article from January 14, 2022, and originally appeared in the El mundo en tus manos news summaries for 2021-2022. It has 16 challenge and content blocks, with single-sentence content blocks.
It has 4 core vocabulary words/phrases: Senado, servidores, equipo de seguridad, ciberataques
In the article, students learn about the cyber attacks that occurred in Argentina.
To prepare
First, you’ll need to pass out a piece of paper and drawing utensils for each student. Instruct the class that they will not use them until after you’ve read through the text together.
The hack-tivity
Project the text and read through it with your class. You can also make this a purely listening exercise.
Tell your class to write the date of the cyberattack on the top of their papers. Then ask them to draw what they think the culprit – the hacker – looks like. Don’t be afraid to get silly! Encourage students to come up with creative criminals, like Bad Bears or Creepy Crocodiles.
Once the hacker drawings are done, collect them and arrange them at the front of class. You can either tape them to the wall or simply arrange them on the floor or a desk near the front.
Lead a discussion with your class about who they think the hacker might be.
What does the hacker want?
Have fun with the conversation, and bring this Garbanzo lesson to life!
