Multilingual learners will have access to proficiency oriented English lessons in the Garbanzo digital library
Garbanzo, the digital library that provides language acquisition resources to world language teachers and students, launched its newest feature on August 19th: English lesson libraries for multilingual learners.
Like Garbanzo’s Spanish lesson libraries, the English lessons feature texts and audio that facilitate language acquisition through storytelling. The texts have processing questions embedded throughout to help learners understand the story and keep them engaged.
Martina Bex, co-founder of Garbanzo and a former Spanish teacher, hopes to support the growing demand for English Language Learner (ELL) programs.
“Many schools are faced with the tough decision of having to flip teachers from teaching World Languages to ELL due to budget constraints,” said Bex. “We’re proud that Garbanzo can support this growing need by giving teachers access to both Spanish and English libraries with a single subscription, in case their course loads are pulled in multiple directions.”
Research done in the field of language acquisition shows the importance of not just reading, but reading texts that the learner can understand and engage with.
The English lesson library launches with 300 lessons meant to support learners with beginning English proficiency. Ultimately, Garbanzo intends to have new lessons each month that support learners at a wide range of levels.
Garbanzo offers two subscriptions (Premium and Standard) and quotes for districts, with all student accounts at no cost. Additionally, teachers can test out Garbanzo with a 30-day free trial: https://app.garbanzo.io/signup
