We've made it to the end of our second season of The Garbanzo Spanish Podcast and we are so excited to be sharing it with you!
In the Amazon there is a lost city of gold! Or, is there? Listen to this episode about a group of explorers looking for the lost city of Paititi, or, in Spanish - El Dorado! This episode is most closely aligned with Somos 1 Unit 8.
Core Vocab: ciudad, leyenda, realidad, dónde está
Episode length: (story starts @ 1:34, full story starts @ 8:14)
Listen on: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube
Materials for class
As a companion to each episode, we have some printable activities you can use with your class.
Click here to download the activities for Episode 20. Here are some ways to use them!
print out page 1 and have your students read along before, after, or during listening
print out one copy of page 2 per student and have them read the statements and follow the coloring instructions for the map of South America.
individually or in groups, have students match the English and Spanish statements on page 3
While listening to the bonus episode (THE WHAT? ((read on!)) ) - have students summarize or illustrate the scenes on page 5
BONUS!!!
Check out the bonus episode! Listen to the Garbanzo team's imagining of what the expedition to locate Paititi may have looked like! (Okay, we took some liberties for comedic relief!)
Featuring the writing talents of Andrea Giganti Dima and performances from Andrea Giganti Dima, Borja Odriozola, Johanna Ruiz Fajardo, Paulino Brener, and Walter Rodriguez Martinez.
Core Vocab: selva, ciudad, donde, hay, caminar, ir, saber, volver
Episode length: (17:43 min)
Listen on: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube
Ideas for Class: The bonus episode is not quite as beginner-friendly as the main episode. As always, we aimed for as much comprehensibility as possible, and there are a LOT of cognates, but there is no English support! We hope you'll listen to this first and please drop any fun implementations you come up with in the comments or in an email to [email protected]!
Included in our printables we have a blank storyboard for your students to illustrate, summarize, or WHATEVER! The script is editable, so you may choose to remove some words from your students' copies and have them fill in the blanks as they listen. If you have a theatrical group, you could even have them read the script aloud in groups of 5! (Bonus points for students who nail Borja/Rodrigo's Spanish accent!)
